CSM Certification Requirements
Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites to take the class (no prior certification requirement, no educational requirement, no work experience requirement), to complete the exam, or to receive the CSM certificate. The Certified Scrum Master (CSM) class is designed to introduce you to the basics of agile and Scrum.
Exam: The class includes Scrum Alliance’s CSM exam certification fee. In order to take the CSM exam, you must attend at least 15 hours of the 16 hour class. The CSM exam is administered online and sent to you via e-mail after attendance is recorded and reported by your instructor. You have 90 day access to take the exam and 2 attempts towards passing. The CSM exam consists of 50 questions in multiple choice format; you need to answer 37 out of the 50 questions (or 74%) correctly within 60 minutes.
Membership: The class includes a 2 year membership with Scrum Alliance, scrumalliance.org. Through Scrum Alliance, you can join local user groups, online social networks, and gain access to discounts for events. After passing the exam, you can market yourself more effectively by letting others know about your CSM certification, and through a profile on the Scrum Alliance website. You also have the option to participate in the LinkedIn CSM Group.
PDUs: The class includes 16 PDUs (PMI’s Professional Development Units)/ SEUs (Scrum Education Units) that can be applied to further your educational goals. To claim credit, a code is provided at the end of the CSM class book.
